June Is National Safety Month

By Personal Injury Trial Attorney on June 7, 2017

Each year in June, the National Safety Council, an organization that works to eliminate preventable deaths through leadership, research, education, and advocacy, holds National Safety Month.

Throughout the month, the NSC and thousands of other organizations across the country work to maintain their goal to “Keep Each Other Safe.” This month focuses on reducing leading causes of injury and death at work, on the road, and in homes and communities.

The NSC highlights a different safety topic for each week in June:

  • Week 1 – Stand Up to Falls
  • Week 2 – Recharge to Be In Charge (Focusing on Fatigue)
  • Week 3 – Prepare for Active Shooters
  • Week 4 – Don’t Just Sit There (Focusing on Ergonomics)

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, injuries are a leading cause of disability for people of all ages—and they are the leading cause of death for Americans ages 1 to 44. That’s why it’s so important to raise awareness for injury risks and educate communities about how to stay safe.

Getting Involved and Learning More

So how can you get involved? Both the NSC and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services provide many resources for National Safety Month. You can do something as elaborate as joining the NSC and promoting their materials in your workplace to something as simple as tweeting about National Safety Month. Any amount of involvement will help keep your family, friends, and coworkers safer.

If you do suffer from an injury due to someone else’s negligence, National Safety Month is also a great opportunity to learn how to ensure you get the compensation necessary to help you recover, and to manage the turmoil an injury often causes in your family’s life.

Whether you’ve been injured in a motor vehicle accident, a construction accident, by a dangerous or defective product, or have suffered due to a medical mistake, you can seek legal representation to decide if you can pursue a case for compensation due to your injuries.

A Kansas City medical malpractice or personal injury attorney will be deeply familiar with the intricacies of the law and can help you navigate the process and stand up for yourself in the case of injury.

For information on how to avoid common injuries, and for National Safety Month resources like newsletter blurbs, sample tweets, and posters, visit the National Safety Month pages on the NSC and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services websites.
