The big reason safety tech can’t prevent all accidents

On Behalf of | May 8, 2025 | Car Accidents

When you look at vehicles from a safety perspective, they’ve clearly been getting better over the years. Realistically, this has been happening for decades. The development of seatbelts and airbags was the first step, but now we have safety tech like backup cameras and blind spot monitoring systems.

However, it’s clear that car accidents continue to happen every single day, and they’re one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Why is it that safer vehicles don’t seem to be preventing car accidents, injuries and fatalities? Is the safety tech not working as intended, so modern vehicles aren’t quite as safe as we assume?

Drivers still make mistakes

The problem isn’t with the technology, but with the drivers. No matter how advanced the vehicle is, a driver can still make a mistake and cause an accident.

For instance, say that the driver does have a blind spot monitoring system. But they get distracted by their phone when they’re changing lanes, so they don’t look at it. They could still merge into a vehicle that they should have known was there.

In some cases, the problem is complacency. Drivers are well aware of all the technology in their vehicles, and they may get used to the idea that it can help them avoid accidents and assist as they drive a car. But if a driver is so complacent that they’re more likely to get distracted, or they operate the vehicle negligently, they could still cause a crash that the technology itself can’t prevent.

Have you been injured in an accident another driver caused? Take the time to carefully look into all of the legal options at your disposal, as you may have a right to compensation for medical bills, lost wages and more.
