Kansas City is a crossroad for several major highways in the country, so it is no surprise that around Thanksgiving Day, the road is packed both with travelers going for a cross-country trek as well as people traveling shorter distances to other cities and towns in Missouri, Kansas and the rest of Central Plains.
According to the American Automobile Association, or AAA, the number of travelers will be especially high this Thanksgiving holiday, the highest since around 2005.
These high numbers will affect motor vehicle traffic, as the projection is that 48.5 million people across the country will hit the road in the upcoming weeks, five percent more than the number of drivers who traveled for Thanksgiving last year.
Apparently, the higher gas prices are not enough to stifle enthusiasm among travelers who are otherwise enjoying the benefits of a strong economy and more money in their wallets.
What this means is that there will be more cars than usual on to roads in just two or so weeks, even when one accounts for the holiday. Statistically, this means there is also going to be a greater likelihood of car accidents.
Drivers who are planning to travel to or through Kansas City this Thanksgiving, as well as those who just plan to keep up with their regular commute, should be particularly careful on the highways and roads this season. They should especially be alert for sudden slowdowns and changes in traffic flow, as these are more likely when more vehicles are on the road.
While everyone hopes that Thanksgiving will be a safe and enjoyable time for everyone, it is important for people to remember that if they are injured in an accident that is not their fault, they may have legal options available to them.
